DOUNIS
KONSTANDINA
Konstandina Dounis was born
in Melbourne, Australia, her parents having emigrated from
the Greek island of Evia in 1955. She lectured for many
years, during which time she convened a series of
conferences on aspects of Greek-Australian literature and
identity. Her publications include From Σαπφώ to Sappho
(RMIT 1994), the anthology Retelling the Tale (ed.
with H. Nickas, Owl 1994), the children’s book
Zorro, the Adventures of an Australian Terrier
(as translator from E. Mpaloukas’ story in Greek, Pisces
2006), a collection of poems, Poems for my Mother
(Olive Grove Press, 2009), numerous journal articles as well
as many literary translations from Greek into English of
poetry and prose works. In press are her translations of
Dina Amanatides’ Selected Works as well as Nikos
Ninolakis’ Poems. She is currently completing her
research for her PhD on Greek-Australian women’s writing
within the English Department at La Trobe University.
